What is a lawsuit threshold in New Jersey?
Many of our clients who contact our New Jersey personal injury law firm, are not sure whether or not they selected a lawsuit threshold on their car insurance policy. In New Jersey everyone that insures their vehicles must make a selection on whether or not they want a lawsuit threshold (formerly known as a verbal threshold) or a no limitation threshold policy( in the past called a zero or no threshold policy). This decision is very important and needs to be analyzed before making the selection. When you select the limitation lawsuit you have significantly restricted your rights to sue by saving some money on your policy. On the other hand the no limitation lawsuit or no threshold does not restrict your rights at all. When selecting your insurance please make sure you are aware of the implications of your decision which will not only effect you and your spouse if your married but also your children who live in your household. At the Todd J. Leonard Law Firm, we urge all of our clients to select the no limitation threshold. While its true you will pay some more premiums, if you are hurt in an accident you will not have to worry about meeting the lawsuit threshold.
