June is National Safety Month in New Jersey

Earlier this month, the National Safety Council (NSC) kicked off the 25th anniversary of its National Safety Month to “encourage employers to dedicate the month to improve their safety culture and keep workers safe through unparalleled information, strategies and tools to complement its weekly themes.” The NSC is America’s leading nonprofit safety advocate whose mission is to help prevent the causes of injuries and deaths, including those who are injured at work. Per the NSC website, “Employers who show they care about the safety of their employees see improved morale, increased productivity, lower costs and fewer injuries.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, private industry employers reported 2.8 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses in 2019.

If you are seriously injured while working, you should immediately seek medical attention. Next, you should alert your employer as soon as possible. The workers’ compensation statute requires that an employee who is hurt on the job must report the injury to their employer.

If a third-party and/or outside contractor caused or contributed to your accident, you may also be able to bring a claim for your damages from that person or company as well. These cases are commonly known as third party claims and are often complex and require a thorough evaluation.

Many work-related injuries are attributed to construction site accidents, slip and fall accidents, truck accidents, and car accidents, which often involve a third party or outside contractor. Many injuries sustained while working at a warehouse often occur when lifting heavy objects, operating a forklift, or a crane, falling off a ladder, or slipping on a wet floor. If you are a making a delivery, workers can also get bitten by a dog while attempting to make a delivery, due to the dog not being properly secured by the owner.

It is important to retain an experienced New Jersey Personal Injury attorney to evaluate your potential third party claim and hold those fully responsible for all of your injuries and losses.
