New Jersey Zantac Cancer Lawsuit Attorney
Zantac is a popular medication used by millions of people to treat heartburn and other acid-related issues. Generically known as ranitidine, it has been available by prescription and over the counter and regularly recommended by doctors who believed in its safety. New information shows that some ranitidine medications contain a potentially carcinogenic substance called NDMA and are linked to cancer in users.
If you or a loved one used Zantac or another form of ranitidine and were later diagnosed with cancer, or sadly lost a loved one, you might be entitled to significant compensation.
What is Ranitidine?
Ranitidine and Zantac are used to treat heartburn and acid reflux and to prevent stomach ulcers. These medications were available widely at retailers like Wal-Mart, CVS and pharmacies nationwide.
In late 2019, it was discovered that ranitidine medications contained extremely high amounts of N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA,) a chemical known as a probable human carcinogen. The FDA recommends no more than 96 nanograms of NDMA per day. Some samples of ranitidine were found to have contained more than 3.2 million nanograms in a single dose. Users of these drugs often took them regularly, for long periods of time and this continued exposure to NDMA put them at risk of developing cancer.
Preliminary testing further indicated that the level of NDMA in the drugs is influenced heavily by the time since its manufacture and the way it is stored. Many retailers pulled Zantac and its generic equivalents from shelves and the FDA has warned of the dangers of using it and issued a voluntary recall.

Filing a Zantac Lawsuit
Zantac lawsuits claim that the manufacturer of the drug, Sanofi, was aware of the high levels of NDMA and failed to take proper action to protect users from exposure.
If you or a loved one have received a cancer diagnosis after regular, long term use of Zantac for the treatment of heartburn, acid reflux, stomach ulcers or another condition, you could be able to file a lawsuit and recover damages related to your condition. Compensation is potentially available for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost income and earning potential, permanent disability, wrongful death and more.
You could have a case against Zantac if you took the drug as a name brand, over the counter or prescription medication or a mix of both regularly for at least a year and have received a confirmed diagnosis of cancer within five years of your last dose of Zantac. There are additional case criteria for children who have taken Zantac and subsequently been diagnosed with cancer and for prenatal cases, as Zantac has been frequently prescribed to pregnant women suffering from heartburn.
We are considering cases for those who used Zantac regularly for extended period of time (no less than 1 year and daily or weekly ongoing usage for at least 12 months), their last dose was within 10 years of being diagnosed with one of these cancers: bladder cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer, lung cancer (for non-smokers only), kidney cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer (diagnosed no later than age 64), or stomach cancer. We are not considering any cases where the client had prior diagnosis of lung cancer or if the person was a smoker who was smoking within 10 years of cancer diagnosis. We are not considering cases for KY, LA, TN, PR or MI.
