When you meet with a workers’ compensation lawyer, it is important to provide your attorney with background information so they can get started on your claim. A workers’ compensation lawyer will want to know important information related to your job, the cause of your accident, and your injuries and treatment. You will want to bring the following to the first meeting with a workers’ compensation lawyer.
• A description of the accident in your own words;
• Your employment records, including your start date;
• A few recent paychecks;
• The name of your supervisor, or the person you notified of your injury;
• A copy of the official notice you provided to your employer;
• The hospital, urgent care, or medical facility where you were treated;
• The name of the doctor who treated you;
• Any dates you received medical treatment, including follow-up visits;
• Any medical records you received pertaining to your injuries;
• Any medical bills you have received so far;
• Photos of your injuries, preferably shortly after the accident;
• The contact information of witnesses who saw the accident;
• A copy of the accident report completed by your employer; and
• Any communication between you and your employer related to the accident, including emails, text messages, letters, and written versions of telephone conversations.
